The TOSCA project is an 18-month EU FP7-funded project run by a consortium of seven institutions across Europe, aimed at assessing the potential for new technologies and fuels to reduce the greenhouse gas emissions of the European transport system.
Have you people done much research into systems like like "Skyway" and "Freedom Transit"? That is;
ReplyDelete1) a new network of lighter-duty "roads" (much of the cost under the status quo, is engineering all roads for heavy vehicles), often "elevated" and providing lower cost bypasses, bridges, etc where there is high congestion
2) Built-in electric supply to (non-heavy, electric) vehicles using those roads (conventional vehicles would have to be excluded, but electric cars using these "roads" could also use normal roads)
3) Automated vehicle spacing and speed control, enabling very high speeds, close spacing, and very high lane throughput
4) Solar panels along the "roads"
The advocates of such systems say the "total system" cost and energy is substantially lower than both conventional roads and vehicles, and lower than conventional mass transit.
